The 13th Regional Annual Convention of the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Mindanao Chapter was held at Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City on November 14 to 15, 2008. The theme of the convention “Food Microbes: In sickness and in health” attracted participants from the academe, government and private institutions, and food industries. A total of 67 participants from the different regions in Mindanao attended the convention. Fifteen participants were inducted as regular PSM members.

PSM Mindanao was honored by the presence of Dr. Maria Auxilia T. Siringan, PSM National President, Dr. Francisco Elegado, PSM National Vice President and Dr. Delia Ontengco, PNCM president as plenary speakers. Several other PSM members from the Mindanao chapter presented scientific papers during the two-day convention.

PSM Mindanao’s new set of officers were elected during the business meeting and were sworn into office by Dr. Siringan. It was followed by a fellowship and an advance Christmas celebration. It was indeed an enriching activity.
